New Top Gear line-up to include US actor Matt Le Blanc as Chris Evans' co-presenter

Former Friends star Matt LeBlanc is be one of the new presenters of Top Gear when the motoring programme returns to BBC Two in May.

The US actor will be the show's first non-British host in its 39-year history.

"Matt's a lifelong fellow petrolhead and I'm thrilled he's joining Top Gear," said Chris Evans of his new co-presenter.
Additional Top Gear cast members will be confirmed shortly, the BBC said

"As a car nut and a massive fan of Top Gear, I'm honoured and excited to be a part of this iconic show's new chapter," said LeBlanc. "What a thrill!"

The 48-year-old is best known for his role as Joey Tribbiani in Friends and has more recently been seen, as himself, in BBC Two sitcom Episodes.

"Acting out our craziest car notions on screen is a dream job and I know we'll both be debating some epic road trip ideas," continued Evans in a statement.

"We can't wait to share what we've been up to on screen later this year."

LeBlanc has twice appeared on Top Gear on its popular "star in a reasonably priced car" segment and holds the record for the fastest ever celebrity lap.

Alan Tyler, the BBC's acting controller for entertainment commissioning, called LeBlanc "a class act and a brilliant signing".

Why doesn't he know about cars? Do you know him personally?

Think it's a great idea - he should balance Evans' character nicely. Though in reality, top gears old format ended up being 3 blokes pratting about using cars as an excuse. If they make it a proper petrol head show, I bet half those who used to watch probably wouldn't bother

Also, I wonder if there's any truth in the rumour that Chris Evans struggles to talk to the camera whilst driving and it makes him car sick. That would royally fuck the show up. Or make it amazing...

The BBC still thinks Top Gear is about cars.

It used to be about cars. Then along came Clarkson, May and Hammond and it became one of the best comedy shows on TV.

I have literally rolled around laughing at some of the stuff they did. The caravans episode was superb. The rocket made out of a Reliant Robin.The tractors.

Outstanding comedy that made it the most successful show the BBC has ever made.

Now they are going back to making it a car show. They are choosing people who know about cars but are not funny and have no chemistry on screen. It will be a rival to other car shows for a tiny audience of car nerds who care about how much torque there is in the new Ford Mondeo.

Nobody else will watch it. Especially with Chris Evans hosting it. He's a complete tosser and not remotely funny. Are they actually trying to make the show unwatchable?

By the way, and at the risk of zoltaneering, I met James May in the lounge at Heathrow a few months ago. I chatted to him for a few minutes and I can tell you he is an absolutely top bloke - easy going, friendly and completely down to earth.

I will definitely be watching him and the other two on Amazon or whatever it is they've signed up for.

I would rather watch the Home Shopping Channel's mid morning soft furnishings hour than Chris Evans.

Top Gear was probably the last piece of politically incorrect television produced by the bbc for the white grumpy old man part of their demographic.
Its now being realigned towards the Friends part of the demographic ie gays and women
